What I Long to Be

by Casey McKinnon on January 13th, 2008

Daily Self Portrait - December 30, 2006

Over the past month and a half I’ve been looking for the perfect opportunity. Something that will satisfy my inner-geek and further my growing career. By attending meetings and pitching networks, I’ve realized something. I don’t want to be the next Amanda Congdon or Ze Frank, I want to be the next Audrey Hepburn… the next Fred Astaire… the next all-around talented individual.

If I’m not making you laugh or cry, I’m not doing what I truly desire.

When I was a little girl and my mother would tell me to go to bed because she noticed I was tired, I would pretend to be wide awake. Seeing through my scheme time and time again, she called me an actress.

Growing up, I played many parts… I was an alternative kid, a punk rocker, a tough martial artist, and a diplomat. I loved every role. But when I started Galacticast with Rudy, I gave myself the opportunity to be the real me… a chameleon.

Rudy and I have been watching so many classic movies recently, and I’ve discovered something I was missing. Emotion. Movies complete me emotionally… and if they don’t make me laugh or cry, they are a waste of my time.

My mission is to bring emotion to you… whether it be guest starring on Galacticast and making you lol, or starring in the next Audrey Hepburn tragic romance that makes you cry like a baby.

That is what I aspire to be. Wish me luck on getting there.

One thing I know is that you will be whatever you decide to be and you’ll be good at it.

  2. Andy says:

Mmm. Very well put. All it takes to achieve one’s dream is to be able to verbalize it, and you sure have.

    Good luck.

  3. John says:

    Good Luck Casey!

  4. veronica says:

    best picture ever, btw.

your biggest lady fan (maybe except after your mom)

you’re a success and will only become a bigger one in the future.

  6. Eric Susch says:

    Good luck!

You and Rudy have been doing some of the best and most ambitious online video work there is. (We wanted to tell you in person but we missed you at the last expo.) Keep it up and never surrender your dreams!

Knowing who you are and where you want to go is enough to see you along any journey. I wish you every success, you are following your dream with your heart on your sleave; you’re already half-way there, the next half is the fun bit!

I like Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire in Funny Face. I respect your mission and as a fan I totally support you. I hope to see you on the big screen or on television.

Tough field, but at least you have a leg up with the whole internet fame thing. You definitely have the talent, the look, oh and the stubborn determination.

The cool thing about Web 2.0 is that we, your fans, can track your progress. So when you make it, we MAKE IT WITH YOU. Um, that didn’t come out right. Although that would be another way to get your name out there :) Take your vitamins.

Anyhoo bon chance, and I hope to see you either on a TV show that is too smart and funny to stay on the air, or in an independent film that takes Hollywood by storm.

    Be seeing you

  10. Casey says:

Thanks for all the sweet comments, everyone!

Just to clarify a little… when I say I want to be the next Audrey or Fred, I don’t necessarily mean it MUST be on the big screen. By saying I don’t want to be Amanda or Ze, I mean that I want to be part of my own genre of online video – fiction is my playground ;)

  11. Nik Butler says:

    in the style of Chandler:
Could I BE more in love with Audrey Hepburn ?

Probably not though I think my Wife has her stylings and I just loved that Lady. Sigh ….

    Anyway

Yes indeed I cant see why your not going to achieve those goals. They are clear your MotiVated ( With Capital M and V ) and you have established credibility and awareness.

I wish you all the best and hope those contacts and people I have passed on can be a small step in some way.

After all , if we have seen further its by standing on the shoulders of Giants.

I hope you get to see all the way !

    Hi Casey.
Believe on yourself, you will make it, I know.
You are in the right path.
I think you are very talented, very creative, and I think instead of thinking to be the next “Audrey Hepburn”, or the next “Fred Astaire”, you could think in being the first “Casey McKinnon” of the world, why not?, remember there is not yet the XXI Century true diva or legend. You could be the first one of someone of those next XXI century cinematographic legends! ;).
All it’s up to you!, just try it, work for it.

    My best wishes to you.

  13. James says:

    Thats fantastic Casey.

I hope all your dreams come true, I believe they will.

    Love,

    James xx

GOOD LUCK!!! You can do it!!
I know from personal experience, so my advice is to do what will make you happy in life, and there’s always a critic or two.
STAY AWAY FROM THE NEGATIVE PEOPLE!(don’t listen to those who say “it’s not for you”–only YOU know what’s best for you).
Though you can be a great actress without others, a support group always helps I found.
Surround yourself with family and friends who support you(it makes a world of difference).
    GOOD LUCK CASEY!!
P.S. Never give up on your dreams!

  16. rob says:

Well, Galacticast is a good place for a chameleon! We all here miss you at the show..! Artists (and heroes) evolve with the things they DO!!! ;)

    Greetings from Germany

  17. Peter Allen says:

The life of a chameleon can be tough. Hiding behind a mirrored mask to blend in with a surrounding that may be beneath your true potential.

However… If you just PRETEND to be a chameleon,, when someone says “Oh look, a pretty chameleon, I will pick it up” Then you turn into a flesh ripping velociraptor, Welll then missy, that there is some good acting.

And if that velociraptor ever got sick and died, I would cry.

You make a dude cry, and you have a fan for life. Good Luck my friend.

  18. Samsonite says:

You are very talented ;) Never give up on your dreams, hard work a little bit of luck is all you need :)

  20. tashfeen says:

hi, got here from pownce. don’t try to be a chameleon, because you are one. if you want to be who you want to be, there’s only one way…

don’t be tied down by money, your past or your fame. risk everything, to be who you are. it’s sure damn worth it… after all, life is a journey and you’re alone on the ship. no one else is going with you. hey good luck with everything!

  21. Caos says:

I will watch all your movies. Such commitment to human emotions are the very definition of acting, or at least it should be. A fan blowing hurricanes of colorful intensity and breezes of light shades, cradle for inspiration and dreams…
