Help Plan My Haircut!

by Casey McKinnon on April 13th, 2008

Help me choose my new hairstyle!!!

It’s time for a change.

I’ve been donning a long layered haircut for the past few years and it’s been a good run… but lately I find myself liking my Daily Self Portraits better when my long locks aren’t in the photo (like most of the above shots).

I’d really like to go for a more dramatic look like this, this, or even this… but I think most of my inspiration comes from one of my favorite actresses from Days of Our Lives, Rachel Melvin, who is truly adorable (pic).

So, I now open it up to you… friends and fans. if you have any suggestions on how you’d like my new hair to look, post links here in the comments!

Your hair always looks good Casey.

  2. Larry says:

You will look brilliant in any hair style!!

  3. Jarrell says:

I like the 2nd pic you posted above. The Beverly C. Looks like it would go well with your facial features.

  4. I like the nikki richie look. It seems like it would be the easiest for day to day maintenance and I love the orange highlights. :) But the blonde would cost a lot to keep the roots in check. The cut is definitely my favorite for you, though. All of them would look super cute on you!

  5. Vincent says:

On a serious note, I agree with Bonny. I love that Nicole Richie haircut.

  6. Mark J says:

Casey, I think you’re gorgeous and adorable (as I’ve mentioned repeatedly to the point of borderline stalking!) and I hesitate to venture an opinion, BUT I would vote for

    1) The Rachel Melvin cut, or;

    2) The Nicole Ritchey cut.

I think they soften your cuteness just right!

IMHO, you’re adoring fan, Mark J.

  7. Casey says:

@Vincent: LOL! Don’t you think “The T’Pol” is a little out of date? Or perhaps ahead of its time… hmm. I agree, though, I think the Nicole Richie do is about right…

    @Larry: Thanks man!

@Jarrell: I agree, but perhaps I’ll cut it a bit shorter and it can grow into the Beverly C ;)

@Bonny: Don’t worry, chickita… I’ve been blonde before and don’t plan to go back (pic). In fact, I’m thinking of dying my hair a bit darker to make it more severe a look.

@Tony: Starbuck indeed rocks… but I’d like to make good use of my bangs too. Not sure if I should rock straight bangs or pull an Elizabeth Hurley.

  8. Sarah Atwood says:

The short layered bob is really in right now. The Nicole Ritchie cut would look great on you but I think you should pair it with the pixie bangs. You could totally work those bangs. Those would be hawt on you. Yeah, for drastic hair cuts!

  9. Casey says:

@Mark J: You flatter me, thanks! I agree fully with your assessment… perhaps I can blend the two looks (rawking the straight and the curly looks on different days).

  10. Casey says:

    @Sarah: PRECISELY what I’m thinking… ;)

  11. Carolyn says:

Actually, you have the bone structure to pull off a “Posh” or a “Rihanna” – something really angular and dramatic. Do something fun!! Get some fun platinum highlights or something. You’ve got too much personality to get something safe. :)

  12. Casey says:

@Carolyn: You’re absolutely right… but I want to make sure I also don’t look too much like anyone else. Perhaps something too angular will look like Posh Suicide, and as fabulous as she is I don’t want to take her signature look!

  13. Casey says:

@Alistair: Noted, my friend, noted ;)

  14. Gordon Duke says:

I really like #3, the Mark Leeson Velocitude, but the straight edges take a good bit of maintenance.

You have great bone structure, and I think it would really pop with the harder lines, but you can rock most any look. In do think I like you slightly more with a little framing to your face.

  15. Casey says:

@Gordon: I agree that the severe look would be frakking AWESOME, but I think I might save it for a movie or specific show. I know that I can get lazy in real life and it might take a little too much upkeep. Thanks for your thoughtful assessment :)

  16. I put my vote for either the Beverly C or the Mark Leeson Velocitude. I think they would both be great.

  17. Jaimie says:

I vote for #1 or #2. anything you do will look fabulous!

  18. Casey says:

@Jerome & Jaimie: Thanks! I can’t wait to get something new and different… and post cool photos on the interwebs :P

  19. hmm, looks like ur set on a shoulder length cut w/bangs. thats fine. i think u could pull it off well. of the examples u linked 2 i like the mark leeson cut best 4 ur fine facial features. if u look @ nicole richie & rachel melvins faces they’re totally different from urs. i always tell my friends that ask me 4 my opinion 2 never, ever get a cut cuz u like it on someone else. especially a celeb. remember celebs have the money 2 go 2 a stylist who creates a cut that flatters their face shape & facial features first. then they take into account the look the celeb wants 2 project. plus they can afford 2 have their stylist maintain the cut & color. my best suggestion 2 you is 2 find urself a gud stylist whose talent & opinion u trust implicitly & discuss w/them wut u’d like & then let them give u the cut they feel suits u best. i hope i’ve been helpful 2 u. good luck casey.

  20. Cayce says:

Might be a little too striking but I fell in love with Charlize Theron’s hair in “Aeon Flux”

  21. GaryJ says:

    Rachel Melvin – cut, definitely

  22. Casey says:

@Jonnie: Why pay for a stylist when you’ve got fans who can do it for you ;)

@Cayce: I LOVE that hair! Still, might not be great for everyday since I actually have wavy hair naturally :S

    @GaryJ: I agree, she’s super cute :D

  23. weker1 says:

Red White and Blue Mohawk With a big Maple Leaf in the middle!
Confuse the hell out of people!
Or a Short Aeon Flux style Thing(the Show not the Shit fest Movie).

  24. Henrik says:

I like the hairstyle on the upper right corner of the picture collage.

  25. Steve says:

I hate layered hair. Layered means “make it look like I’ve never had a haircut.”

I also hate long bangs that put hair in your eyes. And then you blink and the hair bobs up and down. It’s really annoying to look at.

So get short bangs and clean-cut hair that isn’t too manufactured and embraces its natural beauty as much as possible.

Not that you should make hairstyle changes based on my opinion. Not until we get married, anyway. (How’s next year for you?)

  26. sarah says:

i like the Rachel Melvin look.
it would really suit you and your facial features.
    sarah

  27. Ed says:

I think the Beverly C Industrial Brown would look the best and for 2nd choice the Melvin.

  28. Amber says:

I like the Richie cut that you have linked above. I know that you’re looking for something dramatic… I kind of like this, but not sure if you’ll like it: http://www.short-hairstyles.com/zoom/s112.jpg

  29. Gregory Roth says:

The picture on the bottom right is the best look for you :*)

  30. Micha says:

I like the Nicole Ritchie haircut you posted…It would look great!
Mind you, you could probably pull off just about anything.

  31. Steve Bevan says:

The Bob is definitely the way to go now. Do it now before Christina Ricci shows up with it in “Speed Racer”.

  32. Nick Yeo says:

    one word:
    mohawk

    :P

  33. Mark S. says:

Definitely a short, spikey pixie looking cut. Your beautiful eyes and facial features are too gorgeous to hide beneath those locks.
Love your look. … my two cents.

    Mark S.

  34. Kitta says:

I like the blunt fringe (bangs) styles or the Rachel Melvin one. I’m sure you could rock out any of them.

If you’re going to invest in a blunt fringe you’ll want to find a good hairdresser that knows how to cut for your face and hair type. Some cut too far back, too short, too long, cut it wet, cut it emo, etc. I know it sounds silly, but if they don’t know a few tricks it will be hard to style at home and retain the dramatic look. Also, you’ll want to buy some sharp scissors, I would have to cut my fringe every 1-2 weeks to keep it styled. If it grows out a bit and relaxes it’ll look more like a school girls fringe.

And this concludes Kitta’s guide to blunt fringes (bangs).

  35. E to the M says:

I’m a fan of the sweepy bang as opposed to the blunt bang. How about wedged up in the back and longer in the front?

  36. Time says:

I’ve always been partial to a bob haircut, but your hair always looks great.

  37. Michael Tyas says:

The Mark Leeson photo is the sexiest, yet most restrictive…
