Our ElfQuest fan trailer should be coming out really soon, so I thought I would post a few behind the scenes photos of my transformation from Casey McKinnon to Brownberry!

Above: Custom made elf ears to look like those drawn in the ElfQuest comics. These babies were tough to apply because it was so cold in the hair/makeup cabin! They ended up having to use a hairdryer to make it stick. This photo was taken right after application, so they hadn’t applied makeup yet (hence the shininess). Also, that’s tape holding my hair away from my ears… we didn’t want to glue my hair to them!

Above: A shot of Amelia Earhart… I mean, me… sitting in the makeup chair after getting my hair pinned up in curls.

Above: Getting my last hair and makeup touches done before getting changed in my costume and heading to set. At this point, the weather was heating up so they decided to work outside in the sunshine.

2010 From the Eyes of my Laptop

Happy New Year, kiddies! While I didn’t take a self-portrait every day last year, I did take many random self-portraits. Above is a compilation of nearly all the photos I took in Photo Booth on my MacBook Pro in 2010 (some photos cut for time), quite literally the world view of my laptop in 2010 ;)

Some people have asked me if I would continue my daily self-portrait series in 2011. My answer? I will try… the only issue being that I don’t feel very inspired by taking photos on my laptop anymore and would like to get a real camera… perhaps a 7D? I’ve been considering starting a fan fundraiser to raise money to buy a camera, with the promise that I will take daily self portraits for a year and continue to assemble monthly outtake videos. Let me know what you think of the idea! Just an idea at this point…

Plastic Bullet can shoot me anytime…

A couple of weeks ago my friend Stu Maschwitz (@5tu), as Creative Director of Red Giant Software, launched a new iPhone App called Plastic Bullet. At the time I had mixed emotions… the angel on my shoulder says Stu is a visual genius, and the devil on my shoulder told me I already have a zillion camera apps on my iPhone and that Hipstamatic was the bee’s knees. The devil was wrong.

This morning I paid the $1.99 and downloaded the Plastic Bullet app to my iPhone. And. It. Is. Beautiful.

I’ve found a lot of camera apps are hard to control: Hipstamatic is a crap shoot; Toy Camera makes it difficult to change settings; and CameraBag was great at first, but I’ve grown bored of it over time. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all great apps… but I love how Plastic Bullet simplifies creativity to the max. By placing a refresh button in the top right corner, you can keep generating random combinations of photo effects until you find “the one.” And, even if you find one you like, you can save it by clicking on the heart icon and continue searching for other effect combinations you like. Genius. And just the kind of simplistic experience that Apple is all about.

Below is a photo I took while shopping last weekend. The original photo was very plain (I was going to post it here, but my iPhoto kept freezing when I tried to import it), but you can see the effects generated for the photo make it look super cool. Hell, I want to march straight back to the store and buy that dress ASAP! …and perhaps a belt too… and some go-go boots. ;)

Year Five, Here We Come!

Above: Since today’s my four year anniversary, I figured I’d better cut together a frakking video! Here are the long awaited self-portrait outtakes from May-October 2009

Four years ago today, Rudy and I launched the first episode of Kitkast. Though Rudy had made some web videos (video blogs, vlogs, video podcasts, umm… vodcasts?) before, this was the first time we launched a web series… a serialized show. We’ve devoted countless hours to our passion ever since, and I thank every single person whose clicked play, commented on, and shared our videos with their friends.

So what am I doing today to commemorate the occasion? Acting in another web series, of course! I’m up in Vancouver right now, and I can’t say anything much, but it’s going to be EPIC… and reminiscent of Galacticast in some respect. I’ll give you the details when they’re public.

Year five promises to be even better. More guest spots, collaborations, and new content! Thanks for all your support… you make the late nights worthwhile.

Speaking of late nights… this week’s A Comicbook Orange video gave me a late night a couple of nights ago. Enjoy!

Girls Go Geek Interview
